An Overview of Integral Dancing
By Elijah Petersen
Integral Theory is used to investigate dancing as an art form. Dance genres are mapped using general structure-stages of consciousness from magenta to green altitude, and general characteristics of what would constitute Integral Dancing are discussed. The importance of types in each of the four quadrants is examined with a focus on the masculine and feminine types.

Using the four quadrants, I highlight various important perspectives of a dance experience both from the point of view of dancer(s) and observer(s). The roles of the needs, kinesthetic, and creativity lines of development with regards to dance are elucidated. Lastly, ecstatic dance practices are described, inducing peak experiences in meditative states, and the benefits of an Integral approach for understanding and performing dance are summarized.
