International Symposium "Metatheory for the 21st-Century: Critical Realism and Integral Theory in Dialogue"

By: Nick Hedlund-de Witt

On July 17th, 2013 in San Francisco, California, the Integral Research Center will host an exciting pre-Integral Theory Conference event on metatheory and its application in our contemporary global context. We will be building on the highly generative dialogical encounter between critical realism and integral theory that we began during the four-day Critical Realism & Integral Theory Symposium at John F. Kennedy University in the fall of 2011. This year's one-day symposium will bring together leading scholar-practitioners to focus on the ways in which these two (and other) integrative metatheories can join forces to transform scholarship and address the most pressing global challenges of the 21st-century—from climate change to the global economic crisis to emergent geopolitical relations. The symposium will be the basis for an edited book Roy Bhaskar, Sean Esbjörn-Hargens, and Nick Hedlund-de Witt have contracted with Routledge to publish in July 2014.
